Member of Parliament for Isdhoo constituency, Ali Hameed has quit Jumhooree Party (JP) and signed onto the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

The parliamentarian for Isdhoo constituency quit JP and signed with the ruling MDP in the presence of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Monday.

MDP’s Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail as well as other parliamentarians were present at the time of signing.

The Isdhoo MP is the only parliamentarian to have signed onto MDP, of recent.

Members of MDP has warmly welcomed MP Hameed’s decision to join the party.

With Jumhooree Party announcing that the party will be running for the upcoming Presidential Election, members of the party, who are in government positions have been declaring there support for President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and his administration.

As such, CEO of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), Adam Azim, Managing Director of Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSE), Hassan Shah, Immigration Controller Mohammed Ahmed Hussain (Hanafi) and several other members of the party, who were in ministerial level positions have also left the party and declared their support for President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Furthermore, Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has also endorsed President Solih.

In addition to Minister Mausoom, Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Aishath Nahula and Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan are members of Jumhooree Party. They have not yet, declared whether they support President Solih for the upcoming election or not.
