Parliamentary Group leader of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), Ahmed Nihan has accused the opposition of forging signatures in the no-confidence motion submitted against speaker Abdulla Maseeh.
In a tweet sent out shortly after the motion was submitted, the MP for Villimalé constituency said that MP for Isdhoo constituency Ahmed Rasheed had assured him that he had not signed the motion.
In addition to Nihan, PPM's secretary general and Nilandhoo constituency MP Abdulla Khaleel made the same allegation against the opposition coalition, adding that "they will fail in the vote".
A total of 11 lawmakers from the ruling party are to have signed it, according to the list publicized by the opposition.
While PPM's leadership is accusing the opposition of forging signatures, a photo of MP Rasheed signing the said motion has been circulating on social media. MP for Dhiggaru constituency Ahmed Faris Maumoon, who has been spearheading the no-confidence motion against the speaker since March, is seen in the picture as well.
