Former Minister of Home Affairs Umar Naseer has weighed in on granting jailed former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb medical leave.

In his public viber chat group, the former Minister said that sending Adeeb abroad right now- when he has admitted he knows details about the pistol discovered at former Defence Minister Colonel (Rtd.) Mohamed Nazim's residence- could lead to Nazim not getting justice.

"At a time when Adeeb says he is prepared to give a statement regarding the pistol discovered at Ret. Col. Nazim's house, if he is sent abroad for medical treatment, he could flee, taking with him the evidence, and Nazim might not get justice," reads his message.

Umar added that the witness has to be there in person for the Court to accept such statements, noting that Adeeb fleeing could lead to Nazim paying for a crime he had not committed.

Over the weekend, the former vice president sent a letter to the Supreme Court, claiming that the former defence minister had no knowledge of the pistol and bullets that were discovered in his residence.

Adeeb, in the letter, noted that he knew who was behind 'framing' Nazim, who is serving a 11-year jail sentence on weapons charges.

Earlier, police had revealed that the pistol did not have Nazim's fingerprints, nor that of any of his family members, rather that the fingerprints on the pistol had matched the former VP's.
