Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has stated that the Shore Protection Project of Buruni Island in Thaa Atoll is well underway.

MTCC disclosed that breakwater construction under the project has reached 20 percent completion.

The company also stated that beach area backfilling work under the project has reached 27 percent completion.

MTCC commenced the shore protection project in Buruni in December 2021. As such, they stated the project with dredging of borrow areas from which sand will be sourced to pump to the eroding areas.

This project will pump 21,181 cubic meters of sand into Buruni's eroding areas.

The project was contracted to MTCC on September 23, 2021.

The value of the project is USD 1.86 million.
