A man named Aboobakuru Faisal has been arrested under a court order, in connection with the suspected murder of his wife Nishama Mohamed.
Maldives Police Service (MPS) confirmed that Aboobakuru, 32 and native to Fenfushi island in Alif Dhaal atoll, has been arrested.
His wife Nishama Mohamed, 28, was found lying on her bed on Saturday, believed to have been murdered.
The authority also revealed the investigative bodies have decided to conduct an autopsy on the victim’s body.
Nishama’s body was since transferred to Kulhudhuffushi City, in the same atoll, from where it was to be brought to capital Malé City.
Credible sources reported that Aboobakuru had turned himself in, to the Kulhudhuffushi Police Station.
Speaking to RaajjeMV regarding the suspected murder, Nolhivaram island council member and Information Officer Mohamed Mustafa revealed that the council received reports of the death at around 01:30pm on Saturday.
Mustafa highlighted that Nishama's body was found at around 12:30pm and cited the family having reported that she was found dead, lying on her bed.
He also cited the island’s health center having revealed that Nishama was already dead when she was taken in.
The police institution has since launched an investigation in connection with the woman’s murder. Police media officials received reports of the death at around 12:30pm.
Police officers had attended the scene immediately after receiving the report.
RaajjeMV understands that the murdered woman’s spouse has since been pinned with allegations in connection with the homicide, due to several reasons particularly as the woman’s body was found with bruises and wounds.
The family as well as credible sources have reported that the man had abruptly departed to Kulhudhuffushi City that morning, which was unusual.
The family has accused Nishama’s husband of physically assaulting her.
