Discussions have been held on the collaboration of the governments of Maldives and China, in healthcare, fisheries, and climate change.
The discussions were held during a courtesy call paid on Vice President Faisal Naseem, by Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Maldives Wang Lixin on Sunday.
During the call held at the President's Office, VP Naseem and Ambassador Lixin shed light on the long-standing close ties of friendship and cooperation between Maldives and China.
Discussions at the meeting revolved around ways to further solidify relations in areas of mutual interest including healthcare, fisheries, and climate change.
VP Naseem noted that the 50th anniversary since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries is celebrated this year.
The Vice President assured the Chinese ambassador that Maldives remains committed to uphold the One-China principle, noting that Maldives and China share common goals in maintaining peace and security.
Discussions also touched on securing scholarship opportunities for Maldivian students, especially in the education sector, infrastructure development, and cultural exchange programmes.
VP Naseem and Ambassador Lixin went on to reaffirm their mutual commitment to strengthen cooperation in the future.
Diplomatic relations between Maldives and China, were established on 14 October 1972.
