President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that Singapore is an important development partner for the Maldives.

President Solih stated this during a meeting with the new High Commissioner of the Republic of Singapore to the Republic of the Maldives, Soo Kok Leng.

Prior to the meeting held at the President's Office on Tuesday, a ceremony was held for the High Commissioner of Singapore to present his credentials to the President.

To start off the meeting, President Solih congratulated the High Commissioner on his new appointment.

President Solih reaffirmed the High Commissioner on the two countries' long-standing bilateral relations based on shared values and people-to-people contact.

The President and the High Commissioner also discussed various issues of common interest. As such, discussions were held on regional and international collaboration, trade and investment cooperation, tourism cooperation, and climate adaptation.

The High Commissioner commended President Solih and his administration on the successful management of Covid-19 in the Maldives.

Before concluding the call, the President and the High Commissioner expressed their commitment to further strengthen the long-standing bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the two countries.

The Maldives and Singapore established diplomatic relations on February 20, 1975.
