A project to upgrade the School in Omadhoo island has been launched under a Japanese grant aid.

The project to upgrade Omadhoo School in Alif Dhaal atoll Omadhoo island was launched on Sunday.

The government of Japan and Omadhoo School signed the agreement for the project during a special ceremony held to launch the project, on Sunday.

The agreement was signed by the Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, Takeuchi Midori on behalf of the Japanese government, with Principal of Omadhoo School Hassan Amir signing on behalf of the school.

The government of Japan provided a grant aid of USD 80,731 which is approximately MVR 1.2 million, for the project to upgrade the Omadhoo School.

The Embassy of Japan in Maldives revealed that the GGP project will enhance the learning environment through the construction of a classroom and a toilet for Special Education Need (SEN) children.

The project will ensure the school’s classrooms are made a safe and secure place for children.

Further, the school will be upgraded to be used as a shelter in the case of a natural disaster.

The project is to be carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.

The government of Japan has been a generous contributor to the development of Maldives, in multiple different sectors. As such, most recently, Japan provided a grant worth 117 million Japanese Yen which is approximately USD 865,000, to the government of Maldives, in June, for the continuation of scholarships opportunities to be offered by the government of Japan for the fiscal year 2023, under the Japanese Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS).

Towards the end of May, the government of Japan also provided a grant aid of 650 million Japanese Yen which is approximately USD 5.1 million, in a bid to promote the economic and social development of the island nation.
