President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has been briefed on the concerns and issues facing the residents of Feeali island in Faafu atoll.

The president met with the island council members on Thursday.

During the meeting, the councilors shed light on the important development progress made under the incumbent administration of President Solih and expressed gratitude to him.

Discussions also touched down on the administration’s development plans for the island and the most pertinent needs of the residents presently.

The president received a request from the councilors, to expedite the land reclamation project and develop a healthcare center and a volleyball court.

The need for a multipurpose hall and expedition of the development of a science laboratory in the school were also topics of discussion.

The councilors also shed light on the need to designate a picnic island and the need to develop a jetty for fishing vessels to procure ice, which will help ease congestion in the harbor.

Further, the meeting also saw the Feeali councilors briefing the president with challenges presented by space constraints in the mosque.

The councilors also urged the president to establish a police post at the island and briefed him on the challenges in procuring pharmaceutical equipment.

Representatives of the Feeali Women’s Development Committee (WDC) also attended the meeting and shared the challenges they face in discharging their duties, including financial constraints and a lack of adequate resources and facilities.

Listening to these concerns, the president stated that these meetings are important to acknowledge the needs of island communities and subsequently accommodate these requests.

He affirmed that the government will find ways to address the concerns raised at the meeting and assured the island councilors that the land reclamation project will be inaugurated soon.
