The First Couple has attended the closing ceremony of the South Asian Junior and Cadet Table Tennis Championship 2022.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed attended the closing ceremony of the championship on Wednesday .
The ceremony was held at the indoor hall of the Social Center.
President Solih presented medals to gold, silver and bronze winners in the female cadet team as well as the junior female table tennis team categories.
Gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded to the male cadet and junior male table tennis teams by First Lady Fazna.
Furthermore, the ceremony also saw the President of the Asian Table Tennis Union, Khalil Al Mohanadi presenting a commemorative plaque of appreciation to President Solih.
The South Asian Junior and Cadet Table Tennis Championship 2022 was held in Maldives capital, Malé City from May 9 – 11 and featured teams from the host country as well as Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan.
During a meeting with the Maldivian men's and women's table tennis teams that competed in the championship, earlier, the president pledged to further develop table tennis as a competitive sport in the Maldives.
As such, the president highlighted that table tennis could be developed further as a competitive sport in the Maldives and pledged his administration’s support and commitment to do so.
