Fisherman attacked by shark after falling overboard
A fisherman has been injured in a shark attack.
The incident happened after the fisherman fell overboard and was attacked by a shark on Tuesday, leading to severe injuries on the calf of his right leg..
The shark attack victim has been identified as a 62-year-old Maldivian man.
Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) revealed that the man fell overboard and suffered the shark attack off Maafilaafushi island of Lhaviyani atoll.
The incident was reported to MNDF at around 10:57am on Tuesday, and immediately dispatched a team from their Northern Area Coast Guard Squadron, also joined by a team from the Lhaviyani atoll hospital, to provide emergency medical treatment.
The man was then taken to the Lhaviyani Atoll Hospital for further treatment.
14 other crew men were on board the fishing boat, ‘Shavona’ at the time of the incident.
