Maldives Police Service has removed the wording altered 'India Out' banner that was hung in Male’ City. The latest banner displayed by the opposition read " In Dear Out "

The wording altered ‘India Out’ banner was hung following the removal of all 'India Out' banners in Male' City, following a Presidential decree issued on Thursday.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, issued the decree, declaring the 'India Out' campaign as a threat to national security.

The presidential decree was titled ‘Stopping Planned Activities to Incite Hatred Towards Specific Countries Under Various Slogans’.

The decree stressed that political campaigns targeting a specific country posed a threat to national security, and that the National Security Council had decided the 'India Out' campaign posed a threat to national security of Maldives.

As such, President Solih had ordered to stop all 'India Out' activities and instructed all government authorities to enforce the order.

President Solih, in his decree, stated that the campaign put Maldives at risk of isolation in the international arena, as well as the loss of country's peace and stability. He stressed that the 'India Out' campaign could lead to a huge economic and social burden for the country.

Stating that this could lead to irrevocable losses, and make it difficult to maintain Maldives’ independence, President Solih said that this would make ascertaining the safety of Maldivians living or visiting overseas, and foreigners living in Maldives difficult.

Following the decree by the President on Thursday, Maldives Police Service removed the huge banners spelling 'India Out' hung at former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom’s house, H. Dhoovehi, and PPM headquarters, located in H. Hurafa, after entering the buildings with court orders.

While the opposition coalition had deemed the decree to be unlawful and has reveled plans to challenge it in court, Maldives Police Service is investigating a hate tweet by one of the members of the opposition coalitional, against the Judge who gave the court order to enter and remove the 'India Out' banners hung at former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom’s house and the PPM headquarters.
