The upgraded laundry and a new X-ray unit have been inaugurated at Gan Regional Hospital, in Laamu Atoll Gan.

This comes under the government’s efforts to upgrade and enhance the healthcare system across atolls in a bid to eradicate the dependency of island residents on the capital city for basic healthcare amenities.

The hospital revealed that the newly inaugurated services have since been made operational.

The services were inaugurated by MP for Gan constituency, Mohamed Wisam.

The hospital highlighted that these improvements will not only reduce the workload of the staff, but will also improve the quality of service provided to the public.

The inauguration of the new X-ray unit and upgraded laundry is a “very important” step in efforts to provide better and quality care for the public.

Gan Regional Hospital is among the five tertiary hospitals planned to be inaugurated across the Maldives by the incumbent administration.

Further, HDh. Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital, R. Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital, Dr. Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital, Addu Equatorial Hospital and Laamu Gan Regional Hospital are health facilities that government is currently preparing to upgrade to tertiary level.

During his presidential address of 2022, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih revealed that the projects to build 100-bed extensions in Kulhudhuffushi, Gan and Thinadhoo island of Gaaf Dhaal atoll will be launched this year.

He went on to reveal that the projects to be launched this year include ones to increase bed capacity of seven atoll hospitals to 50 and build new 30-bed capacity hospitals in 12 islands.

The President assures that efforts are underway to re-establish the primary healthcare system across Maldives under the decentralization policy.
