The Special Awards Committee has been reconstituted.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih reconstituted the committee on Thursday, after the conclusion of its previous term.

He also met with the members of the committee on Thursday morning.

During the meeting, the President extended his sincere appreciation for the invaluable contributions made to the committee by the members.

And he urged the outgoing members to review and re-evaluate the criteria for the awards in order to improve them further.

The members were also instructed to seek avenues to celebrate the extraordinary contributions of notable tourism sector stakeholders, as 2022 marks the Golden Jubilee Year of Tourism in the country.

One of the members, Dr. Ibrahim Zakariyya Moosa thanked the President on behalf of the members, for the trust and confidence he put in them and the committee. Dr. Moosa also assured President Solih that the committee will follow his instructions in determining the recipients of the special awards.

As the previous term concludes, five members from the term have been reappointed for a new term. They include Dr. Moosa as Chairperson, Dr. Abdul Aziz Yoosuf, Dr Ahmed Ali Manik, Aishath Shaheena and Mariyam Shifzan.

New appointees to the committee are Dr. Abdul Muhsin Mohamed and Aishath Samah.

The National Awards for Special Achievement are conferred at a national level to recognize and encourage those who bring honor to the country as well as to acknowledge and celebrate skills, artistry, productivity and academic excellence.
