Education Sector Research Group presented the progress of the research and held a lengthy in-depth discussion on the topics discovered thus far

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has discussed issues facing teachers in the education sector, with the Education Sector Research Group.

The meeting was held at the President’s Office on Wednesday and saw discussions revolving around the importance of conducting research in the education sector, which will greatly assist in identifying issues and challenges faced by teachers.

The President expressed hope that the research will significantly contribute to solve such issues through policy changes based on the findings and upgrade the quality of education.

The meeting also saw the Education Sector Research Group presenting the progress of the research and holding an extensive, in-depth discussions on the topics discovered so far.

Some of the topics discussed include salary for teachers, their workload and work-life balance, rights and dignity, work facilities, training and development as well as how the educational sector progresses.

The President was accompanied by Vice President Faisal Naseem, Minister of Education Dr Aishath Ali and the Special Advisor on Social Policy at the President’s Office, Dr Mustafa Lutfi during the meeting.

The Education Sector Research Group was established to identify issues faced by teachers in the education sector and comprises of six members.

President Solih revealed that the government aimed to conduct research into the state of the education sector and teaching profession to determine the reason for the scarcity of permanent Maldivian educators, during the official awarding ceremony for A-Level Top Achievers of 2019.

This was followed by the constitution of the research group, which includes members; Dr. Ahmed Ali Manik as Chairperson and member representing the field of Education Policy and Planning, Dr. Ali Najeeb as member representing the field of Human Resources, Dr. Aishath Shafina as member representing the field of Sociology, Aminath Zubair as member representing the field of training, Abdulla Zakariyya as member representing the field of Finance and Abdulla Rasheed as member representing the field of Education.
