The government remains committed to support and facilitate the progress of private-sector schools and educational institutions, says President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

He made these remarks during his speech at the "Khidhumathuge Haveeru 2021" event organized by the EPS Foundation, held on Tuesday.

The event was joined by Vice President Faisal Naseem, who alongside the president is a former student of the English Preparatory and Secondary School (EPSS).

Shedding light on the numerous contributions and achievement of the graduates of EPSS, the president stressed on the significant role some of the former students of EPSS play in serving the nation.

He went on to name some notable figures, and their contributions, both students as well as members of the faculty.

Going on to speak regarding the proud history of EPSS, the president stated that the school has produced over 27,000 students, most of whom progressed to become productive and valuable citizens.

The president stated that the time EPSS was established was a time equal access to education was a challenge.

On this note, he extended his gratitude to the founders of the school for their farsighted vision to promote modern secondary school education and highlighted that the school accorded equal importance to provide extracurricular activities to students including programmes for skills development, literature clubs, debate competitions, sports activities, cadet corp, scout and girl guides.

This he described to be synonymous with holistic education.

The ceremony saw President Solih presenting plaques of recognition to past students and members of the faculty.

A research project on the 50-year history of the school was also launched.

The school was incepted on 21 June 1986.
