Former parliamentarian Captain “Senco” Mohamed Shareef has been appointed as the Chairman of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL).
Since 6 February 2019, Shareef had been serving as a board member of the company and was appointed Chairman by the Privatization and Corporatization Board of the Maldives after his name was forwarded for recommendation by the President’s Office.
The Malé City native’s appointment comes a year after the resignation of former MPL Chair, Ahmed Zaki during November 2019.
Shareef served as a Member of Parliament from 2005 to 2011 to the Thaa atoll constituency.
He further served at the first shipping line of the country, Maldives National Shipping Limited (MNSL).
The new MPL chair is a renowned captain.
