Vice President Faisal Naseem has broken ground on a new mosque development project in Fuvahmulah City.
The vice president departed on a trip to Fuvahmulah City on Sunday afternoon.
As part of the trip, he broke ground on the new mosque development project site, located near the harbor in the Dhoodigan district of his home island.
Taking the podium at the event to inaugurate the project, VP Naseem highlighted that the city community had been waiting to see a mosque being development in their neighborhood, for a long time.
He also shed light on the high values accorded by the administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih towards religious affairs and national development.
Funded by the government, the MVR 11.9 million-worth project is expected to be completed within a year.
The mosque will feature modern architecture and design and can accommodate up to 500 worshipers.
The ceremony to inaugurate the project was attended by senior officials of the government and Cabinet Members, who accompanied the vice president during the brief visit to the south.
The trip also saw VP Naseem having toured and inspected the Fuvahmulah Harbor project and the progress of the work to close up the channels used for navigation earlier.
The project was initiated in October 2021.
