888 tourist accommodation establishments have opened doors to tourists nationwide, by Tuesday.

According to the latest daily statistics publicized by the Ministry of Tourism, 51,166 tourist beds are operational across these facilities by the end of Tuesday.

The operational tourist facilities nationwide include 577 guesthouses, 157 resorts, 144 liveaboard vessels and 10 hotels.

The over 51,000 operational beds include 36,974 in resorts, 9,986 in guesthouses, 2,846 in liveaboard vessels and 1,360 in hotels.

Maldives has a capacity of 1,102 tourist facilities which include 160 safari vessels, 11 hotels, 766 guesthouses and 165 resorts. This means that of the total facility-capacity, 16 safari vessels, eight resorts, 189 guesthouses and one hotel are yet to resume operations.

Weekly statistics publicized by the authority most recently revealed that there are two resorts and 11 guesthouses being operated in Haa Alif atoll, two resorts and three guesthouses operational across Shaviyani atoll and one resort, one hotel as well as five guesthouses in Haa Dhaal atoll.

Further it reads that six guesthouses and seven resorts are operational in Noonu atoll, 12 resorts and two guesthouses operational in Raa atoll and 10 resorts as well as four guesthouses in Lhaviyani atoll.

Baa atoll has 37 operational guesthouses, one hotel and 16 resorts in operation, with 224 guesthouses, 52 resorts and five hotels having resumed operations in Kaafu atoll so far.

118 guesthouses and 10 resorts have opened doors in Alif Alif atoll, 63 guesthouses and 16 resorts in Alif Dhaal atoll, 44 guesthouses and four resorts in Vaavu atoll as well as eight resorts and two guesthouses in Dhaalu atoll.

Further, statistics go on to reveal that Meemu atoll has three guesthouses and two resorts in operation, with eight guesthouses and a single resort operational in Faafu atoll, three guesthouses and two resorts in Laamu atoll, four guesthouses and one resort in Thaa atoll, 17 guesthouses in Fuvahmulah City and four guesthouses as well as six resorts and a hotel are operational in Gaaf Alif atoll.

Six guesthouses and three resorts are operational in Gaaf Dhaal atoll and Addu City has 11 guesthouses, one hotel and one resort currently providing services to tourists.

Tourists who have not completed the Covid-19 vaccination will be barred from checking into guesthouses established in residential islands, according to a recent publication by the Maldives Health Protection Agency (HPA). As such, only those who have passed the limit of 14 days after completing both doses of the vaccine can check in to local guesthouses.

Maldives reopened borders on 15 July 2020, nearly four months since borders were closed and at first, resorts and liveaboard vessels were given the green light to begin operations. Guesthouses outside of the Greater Malé Region were permitted to resume operations on 15 October 2020. Authorities allowed the reopening of guesthouses in the capital region on 14 December 2020.
