The students of the flying school in Addu have stressed that they have not been provided with an adequate solution by Avid college after their concerns were shared.
Almost 20 students met with the senior management at Avid college while efforts were underway to transfer the management of Addu Flying School under the college after a Sale Purchase agreement was made to manage AAA.
However, no request for the formal licenses needed to run the flying academy was asked of by the government from the college.
The students said that no sign was given that their problems will be solved with no appropriate response being given from Avid College after meeting with the chairman Abdulla Mushthaaq Rashad to discuss the students’ issues.
The college could also not provide any answers to the questions posed by the students as well. The students have also requested a refund of the fees they have settled to the academy. The chairman stated that if there was a way to refund the money, it would be done and from that point the student must drop the course. The students stress that a compensation must be given for the days they could not conduct studies after paying for it. And requested students to mail Avid college about the refunding.
In addition, the students raised concerns of a mock exam avid college has decided to give them after the school’s acquisition. They also raised concerns that the courses could not be conducted in Addu as an aircraft required for the purpose of was not available.
Chairman Mushthaaq stated that Addu International Airport had not requested the clearing of the Flying School run there. However, a comment was made to RaajjeMV, that while no official discussions have been conducted, the airport had said that no more time can be given unofficially.
The chairman also revealed deliberations to move the school from Addu, stating that the college is waiting for a green light from the government.
The Auditor General’s Office revealed that the currently ongoing audit of the school shall end in September. The currently ongoing work is of the final evaluation with the report to be published within the month. The audit initially began on May 16 , to be finished within a month.
The President’s Office stated that once the audit is finished, actions will be ensured after considering the recommendations. They also commented that Avid has been informed to run the school after seeking permission under the Civil Aviation Policy.
The president’s office also revealed that the discussions with the college are ongoing with an order to change the accountable manager of AAA Akbar Jeevanji being given in June. However, that was staked as there are still steps to be processed under the civil aviation policy.
The office said that the establishment of a government-run flying school with Maldivian was going rapidly with the documents being shared with those concerned.
After the period for the lease ended for the Asian Academy of Aeronautics, they have been asked to clear the school. Addu International Airport Company has decided against renewing the agreement.
The civil court proceedings by 48 of the students at the school for the compensation to be given to them for the losses faced when their studies interrupted are currently ongoing. No further hearings have been held since the first one.
