Human resource development is a priceless future investment, says President
Encourages gender equality in the development of skilled, young workers
Aim of the master plan is to build sufficient human resources to support institutions anticipated to transpire through development projects being carried out across the country
He said this at the inauguration ceremony of National Skills Development Master Plan on Wednesday

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that National Skills Development Master Plan, inaugurated on Wednesday, will be "a cornerstone" of the incumbent administration's commitment to human resource development.

The president made the statement at the National Skills Development Master Plan inauguration ceremony held at Hotel Jen on Wednesday morning.

Speaking at the ceremony, he called the master plan "a cornerstone" of the administration's commitment to human resource development, adding that it would solve some of the challenges faced in the job market.

Highlighting that this was the first time in the history of Maldives that a five-year master plan is being put together for the development of skills in the field of human resources based on national needs, President Solih stated that “human resource development is a priceless future investment.”

Solih then recognized that the main aim of the master plan is to build sufficient human resources to support to build adequate human resources to support institutions anticipated to emerge following the conclusion of development projects being carried out across the island nation. He also stressed that the plan encourages gender equality in the development of skilled, young workers.

President Solih also spoke about the many advantages of the National Skills Development Master Plan at the ceremony, including the fact that it would address issues currently faced in employing Maldivians in technical positions, while focusing on reducing the number of foreigners brought to the Maldives for employment. He further acknowledged that the plan would also slowly address social and economical restrictions, in addition to enabling decentralized human resource development and playing a key role in the Maldives’ decentralized development plan.

Further, the president underlined that his administration saw human resource development as a priority and continued its work in the field, even with the decline of the economy due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

He concluded his speech by recognizing that human resources are limited in many social and economic circles, stressing that mental health is one area that requires special attention.
