Less than a month after being included in Abu Dhabi's green list of countries and destinations from which travelers can enter the emirate without needing to quarantine on arrival, Maldives has been removed from the list.

The latest update on Monday removed six countries -Maldives, United States, Israel, Austria, Italy and Armenia- while adding three to the green list. The countries that were added are Ireland, Malta and Sweden.

The list now includes 28 countries.

Those traveling to the UAE capital from destinations on the green list are not required to quarantine, while anyone traveling from a country not on the green list must follow the current isolation rules, which include wearing an electronic wrist tracker.

Travelers from destinations on the list are required to present a negative PCR Covid-19 test, valid for a maximum 72 hours before departure, and still need to take a PCR test after landing at Abu Dhabi Airport. Vaccinated passengers from the updated list will take another PCR test on day six, while unvaccinated travelers will take PCR tests on days six and nine.

Further, vaccinated travelers from countries that are not on the list must quarantine for seven days with a follow-up PCR test on day six while those who are not yet vaccinated must be in quarantine for 12 days if they have returned to Abu Dhabi from a place not on the ‘Green List’, and undergo a follow-up PCR test on Day 11.

While Maldives has been removed from the list, the island nation's Covid-19 situation seems to be under control with more recoveries reported in the past few days than daily cases. Following the decline in cases, authorities have eased a number of Covid-19 safety protocols including a ban on travelers from the South Asia region last month which was imposed following the worsening situation in the region.

With the country taken off the list, holidaymakers arriving back at Abu Dhabi from Maldives will face home quarantine from Wednesday, when the new green list came into effect.
