38 out of the 45 recommendations in the inquiry report by the parliament's committee on national security services are in the process of being implemented.

This was revealed during a meeting between President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and the National Security Council (NSC) on Thursday.

The committee, commonly known as the 241 committee, conducted an inquiry into the security breach that led to an assassination attempt on Speaker and former President Mohamed Nasheed on May 6. The subsequent report was completed in early July.

While President Solih met with NSC members on Thursday, the President's Office said that centered on the May 6 terror attack.

Noting that they discussed the "immediate, short-term and long-term" recommendations proposed in the report, the office said that 38 of the recommendations proposed in the report are in the process of being implemented.

They are to have discussed the details of how to initiate and implement the remaining recommendations as well.

While 241 committee report shows institutional failure in the May 6 attack, it calls to improve the country's security services including by appointing a national security advisor to instruct the president on security related issues.
