Zaha Waheed was appointed a Minister at the President’s Office on Thursday
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has appointed Zaha Waheed as a Minister at the President’s Office.
The appointment was made on Thursday, during a special ceremony at the President's Office.
Zaha Waheed has experience in serving the government and was most recently the Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture, from November 2018 till May 2021.
She has made countless contributions to the Maldives’ fisheries, marine sciences and disaster management over the years through hard work. Her contributions include founding a National Platform for disaster risk reduction and expanding community-based disaster risk management programs. Between the years 1989 and 2008, Ms. Zaha worked in several important sectors in the Fisheries ministry – she took on the role of Senior Researcher, Deputy Director and Head of Policy and Planning and Coordination Service. Furthermore, in November 2013 she was the Minister of State for Fisheries and Agriculture until August 2015.
Ms.Zaha Waheed achieved her Master of Science (MSc) in Marine Science (Fisheries Resource Management) and is the certificate holder of a Bachelor of Science with Joint Honors in Marine Biology and Oceanography.
