President Abdulla Yameen has decided to send a special delegation to Addu, to monitor the situation in the city following the tornado that hit Hithadhoo on Wednesday night.
President’s Office said that the President has assigned a delegation to visit Addu and assess the situation there. The delegation is led by Minister of Defence Adam Shareef Umar, as a special representative of the President.
President Yameen has assigned them to “assess damages and losses” caused by the tornado.
The delegation will arrive in Addu City on Thursday.
A tornado swept across Hithadhoo Island in Addu City on Wednesday night, causing damages to a number of homes and properties.
A few hours after, spokesperson at the President’s Office tweeted that the President had spoken to Mayor Abdulla Sodiq and expressed his sympathies, and that he is closely monitoring the situation.
