An employee of Maldives Post Limited (MPL) has sustained injuries during a workplace accident.

The individual had fallen from the top of a container and been injured.

This incident occurred on Tuesday night around 9:30.

Spokesperson of MPL, Dhaanish Nizam stated that the accident happened when the worker was trying to climb up on the container spreader, and then getting hit by the spreader which caused his fall. The worker fell on top of a container that was below.

Dhaanish further informed that the victim’s right elbow was dislocated due to the nature of the fall. The worker was taken hospital by MPL’s medics within 15 minutes of the accident.

The MPL spokesperson emphaszied that the worker had been following all safety protocols (helmet, safety shoes, vest) at the time of the accident.

This is the second accident reported at MPL in the last few weeks; another employee there fell while trying to climb containers using a ladder, on July 28.

While a number of accidents have occurred to MPL’s employee’s working at the harbor area, which increased the risk factor of the job, MPL has assured that their employees’ safety and security is of utmost importance and highly prioritized.
