Tourist facilities operational in Maldives
With 12 more tourist facilities opening doors, 754 now operational nationwide

12 more tourist accommodation facilities resumed operations over the past week.

According to the latest figures published by the Ministry of Tourism, by Wednesday, 754 tourist accommodation facilities are currently in operation across Maldives with 48,906 operational beds.

Over the past week, two more guesthouses resumed operations in Baa atoll, seven more resumed operations in Kaafu atoll and one each in Vaavu and Thaa atolls, while an additional resort reopened for business as well.

With 11 more guesthouses having opened doors for tourists, a total of 459 guesthouses are currently operational across the Maldives, with 8,126 beds.

Other operational tourist accommodation facilities include 155 resorts with 36,672 beds and 140 liveaboard vessels that are operating 2,748 beds.

Maldives has a capacity of 1,037 tourist facilities which include 160 safari vessels, 714 hotels and guesthouses and 163 resorts. This means that of the total facility-capacity, 20 safari vessels, eight resorts, 265 guesthouses and hotels are yet to resume operations.

Of the operational guesthouses, 190 have resumed operations in Kaafu atoll.

Guesthouses currently in operation are:

  • Nine guesthouses in two islands of Haa Alif atoll,
  • Three guesthouses in Haa Dhaal atoll,
  • One guesthouse in Shaviyani atoll,
  • Three guesthouses in Noonu atoll,
  • Two guesthouses in Lhaviyani atoll,
  • 27 guesthouses in eight islands of Baa atoll,
  • 190 guesthouses in 10 islands of Kaafu atoll,
  • 94 guesthouses in eight islands of Alif Alif atoll,
  • 50 guesthouses in eight islands of Alif Dhaal atoll,
  • 37 guesthouses in four islands of Vaavu atoll,
  • One guesthouse in Meemu atoll,
  • One guesthouse in Faafu atoll,
  • Two guesthouses in Thaa atoll,
  • One guesthouse in Gaaf Alif atoll,
  • Two guesthouses in one island of Laamu atoll,
  • Three guesthouses in three islands of Gaaf Dhaal atoll,
  • 15 guesthouses in Fuvahmulah City,
  • Eight guesthouses in four islands of Seenu atoll.

Maldives reopened borders on 15 July 2020, nearly four months since borders were closed and at first, resorts and liveaboard vessels were given the green light to begin operations. Guesthouses outside of the Greater Malé Region were permitted to resume operations on 15 October 2020. Authorities allowed the reopening of guesthouses in the capital region on 14 December 2020.
