Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) stated that the laborer who fell after trying to climb up a ladder onto a container on Wednesday evening, is currently in stable condition.

MPL’s spokesperson, Dhanish Nizam said that the man fell down nine feet while trying to climb up onto the third row of a container from the second row using a ladder and fractured his humerus (upper arm).

Dhanish highlighted that the worker had been wearing all safety equipment required, including a helmet.

Although the patient is currently stable, we discovered a humerus fracture during the x-ray, which was not to be seen on the outside"

Dhanish further elaborated that the patient was transferred to Treetop Hospital in Hulhumalé at 11:48pm on Wednesday; as the surgery required by the patient is unavailable in both Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) and ADK Hospital

Due to MPL’s workers getting injured constantly, including the death of a young man this January, they have announced that they would be taking extra safety precautions.
