One of the leaders behind the terrorist attack on former President and current Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed, has been arrested.
Maldives Police Service (MPS) confirmed this during a press conference held on Saturday. where they revealed details of the investigation into the bombing.
During the press conference, Police Commissioner Mohamed Hameed stated that out of the 10 people arrested, one of them has been identified as a leader, Mohamed Thasleem, native to Hoarafushi island in Haa Alif atoll. He was arrested in southernmost Addu City.
The police commissioner clarified that Thasleem is one that always expressed his personal hatred towards former President Nasheed and had previously made statements about wanting to assassinate him.
While police named Thasleem as a leader behind the attack, they said that their isno proof that it was financially motivated.
As of now Adhuham Ahmed Rasheed, Mujaz Ahmed, Thahumeen Ahmed, Ahmed Fathih, Ali Haisham, Fahmy Ali, Mohamed Nazim, Abdulla Ali Manik, Is’haq and Mohamed Thasleem, all remain in police custody.
