The quarantine period for those who have observed 14 days since receiving the second Covid-19 vaccination dose, arriving in the Maldives through international ports of entry has been shortened.

This was announced during a press briefing hosted on Wednesday to update the public regarding the eases to restrictions in the face of Covid-19. As such the President’s Office Spokesperson Mabrook Azeez revealed that travelers who have observed 14 days since receiving the second jab of Covid-19 vaccination will be required to present a negative PCR test result taken 96 hours prior.

Further, Spokesperson Mabrook revealed that the Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) will only be accepting vaccines against the coronavirus pandemic, that have been approved by the World Health Organization (WHO).

This, Mabrook said, is because foreigners will be arriving through international ports of entry.

This has been announced a time the government has revealed that tourists who have booked their stay in the Maldives at resorts, traveling from South Asia will be allowed into Maldives from July 15.

Further the government is to open guesthouses and local tourism for travelers from South Asia, from July 30 as well.

With the eases announced on Wednesday, resorts are required to establish permanent Covid-19 testing centers.

The eases come at a time Maldives has been able to successfully curb a fourth coronavirus wave, confirmed after eases were introduced in April in time for the fasting month of Ramadan 1442 and the local elections. The fourth wave saw case numbers escalating to never-seen-before levels, and prompted authorities to impose strict measures nationwide
