Maldives Covid-19 death toll has risen to 200.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that the 79-year-old Maldivian man being treated at the Gaaf Dhaal Covid Mangement Facility was pronounced dead at 5am on Wednesday.

This has pushed the total number of Covid-19 deaths to have been reported in Maldives to 200, of which 151 have been reported during this ongoing year. The country's first death was reported in April 2020.

Maldives reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. 39 deaths have been reported in June thus far.

With daily Covid-19 cases soaring above 1,000 into the beginning of May, authorities responded by strengthening Covid-19 precautionary measures and guidelines in place. Since then cases have been declining gradually, as well hospitalizations.
