President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has checked on the progress of the distribution centre being converted into a Covid-19 medical facility in the capital’s suburban district Hulhumalé.
The president visited the development site on Sunday, and was greeted by the Managing Director of Housing Development Corporation (HDC), Suhail Ahmed, the Deputy Managing Director of HDC, Ahmed Athif and representatives from the planning department of HDC.
He toured the site and inspected its progress, with HDC officials giving him the latest progress reports of the ongoing work there.
The new Covid-19 medical facility is being developed in order to provide better care for patients who test positive for the virus as well as increase the number of beds available.
While the current Hulhumalé Medical Facility (HMF) has 276 beds available, the establishment of the new facility will add 270 more.
The Health Emergency Operations Centre (HEOC) on June 6 announced work to increase Covid-19 treatment facilities including walk-in facilities for Covid-19 patients.
