President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced that his administration will be increasing the elderly allowance to MVR 7,000. 

President Solih made this announcement during his campaign event held on Thursday night. 

Speaking at the event, President Solih announced that his administration has made the decision to increase the elderly allowance given by the government from MVR 5,000 to MVR 7,000. He noted that this was done with the request of the public to increase this allowance.  

The President also announced to change the retirement age from 65 to 70. 

However, those who wish to retire at the age of 65 will have the option to do so as well.
