Maldives suffered a 5-0 loss against China on Friday

Maldives suffered a 5-0 loss against China in the FIFA World Cup Asian Zone qualifying round on Friday.

China took the lead within five minutes of the match, with a goal by midfielder Liu Binbin. The team was two goals ahead by the 30th minute with a goal from striker Wu Lei.

While the first half ended 2-0, Alan Carvalho scored the team’s third goal at the 66th minute while Zhang Yuning gave the team a four-point lead two minutes later.

The fifth and final goal of the night was from Tan Long, at the 79th minute.

While Maldives and China are in group A of the FIFA World Cup Asian Zone qualifying round, Syria has secured the top spot in the group with 21 points having won all its matches thus far. China is in second with 16 points in seven games, while Philippines is in third spot with 10 points. Maldives is in fourth place with six points after playing seven games while Guam is in fifth with one point.

The team is now preparing for its final match of the qualifying round, against Philippines on June 15.
