The High Court has after great delay, scheduled to start proceedings for MP Ahmed Mahloof’s appeal to overturn the obstruction sentences against him.
While the South-Galolhu MP has completed serving the first of his consecutive sentences – which gave him 10 months and 24 days in prison – the parliamentarian’s family had raised concern that the higher court had been ‘stalling’ proceedings.
He is currently serving the second part of sentence and will be released in June.
The first hearing will be held on May 15th, at around 9:00 am, Mahloof’s lawyer said.
The lawyer, Ahmed Nizam AbduSattar, said that the justice system’s delay in initiating the appeal process is an attack on the MP.
