A total of 30 international airlines are currently operating flights to the Maldives.

Latest statistics published by the Ministry of Tourism revealed that a number of international airlines are increasing flight frequency to the island nation, in light of the growing demand of visitors.

As of Wednesday, a total of 30 international airlines are operating flights to Maldives.

While Maldives discontinued issuing on-arrival visas on March 27, nearly four months later the government reopened borders for international travel, following which Qatar Airways was the first airline to commence flight operations to the island nation.

Thus far, Emirates has carried the highest number of passengers to the Maldives, at 48,098, on 540 flights. Second comes Qatar with 446 flight movements and 34,436 passengers, followed by IndiGo with 496 flight movements and 32,248 passengers.

Other airlines operating flights to Maldives include:

  • Go Air with 490 flight movements and 30,370 passengers,
  • Aeroflot with 150 flight movements and 27,240 passengers,
  • Turkish Airlines with 88 flight movements and 11,104 passengers,
  • Fly Dubai with 174 flight movements and 8,889 passengers,
  • Lufthansa with 58 flight movements and 6,284 passengers,
  • Azur Air Russia with 22 flight movements and 5,833 passengers,
  • Austrian Airlines with 44 flight movements and 4,888 passengers,
  • Edelweiss with 50 flight movements and 4,881 passengers,
  • Condor with 44 flight movements and 4,495 passengers,
  • Etihad Airways with 112 flight movements and 3,551 passengers,
  • Sri Lankan Airlines with 228 flight movements and 1,842 passengers,
  • Air India with 44 flight movements and 1,829 passengers,
  • British Airways with 62 flight movements and 1,791 passengers,
  • Lot Polish Airlines with eight flight movements and 1,088 passengers,
  • Silk Air with 44 flight movements and 1,077 passengers,
  • Gulf Air with 18 flight movements and 209 passengers,
  • Air France with six flight movements and 166 passengers,
  • Air Seychelles with six flight movements and 72passengers,
  • 488 passengers touched down in Maldives on other airlines.

Since borders were reopened the country’s national airline, Maldivian has also carried 6,395 passengers.

Further, some of the international airlines operating chartered flights to Maldives include Air Astana, Azur Air Ukraine, Gullivair, Ukraine International, Scat Airlines, Uzbekistan Airways, Vistara, Blue Air as well as Garuda.

Maldives welcomed 247,138 tourists by Thursday out of which the highest arrivals were recorded from India contributing 23.8 percent of the total arrivals. Second comes Russia contributing 21.7 percent of the total arrival rate, followed by Ukraine making up 6.5 percent of the arrival count.

Looking at the tourist arrival numbers from top source markets by Wednesday:

  • 57,965 visitors were recorded from India,
  • 52,902 visitors were recorded from Russia,
  • 15,940 visitors were recorded from Ukraine,
  • 10,488 visitors were recorded from Kazakhstan,
  • 10,393 visitors were recorded from Germany,
  • 8,394 visitors were recorded from Romania,
  • 6,576 visitors were recorded from Czech Republic,
  • 6,185 visitors were recorded from France,
  • 5,950 visitors were recorded from U.S,
  • 5,931 visitors were recorded from Switzerland.

Maldives aims to welcome 1.5 million tourist arrivals this ongoing year.
