Jumhooree Party Deputy Leader Ameen Ibrahim says the situation that had prompted Maldivians to march for their rights on May 1, 2015 has not changed and must reform ranks again.
Both Ameen and former Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Chairperson Ali Waheed had been living in exile since then. They were both arrested following the protests. Adhaalath Party Leader Sheikh Imran Abdullah had been charged with terrorism and jailed for 12 years.
In a tweet posted in Dhivehi to commemorate the protests, Ameen said that the situation had worsened and called on to “renew hope and reorganize ranks”.

The protests, led under the banner of “ending injustice”, was disrupted by security forces.
