An Indian cargo ship travelling from Kulhudhuffushi island in Haa Dhaal atoll to capital city Malé has crashed into a reef.

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) said that it had dispersed aid from the Coast Guard for Malé division to the ship as soon as the collision had been reported.

The MSV Dhaula had been carrying general cargo like food items and scraps while it crashed into the reef at around 05:19 am.

The ship itself had sustained little damage, and both the Coast Guard and the ship’s eight-member crew had worked to pull the ship back into an open channel.
