The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has confirmed that 83 positive cases of Covid-19 are currently linked to the GA. Dhevvadhoo cluster.
Speaking at Sunday night's press conference, Spokespersn for the Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) Dr. Nazla Rafeeq said that two additional persons linked to the Dhevvadhoo cluster had tested positive on Sunday, and that a total of 83 people linked to the cluster had now tested positive for Covid-19.
The first case of Covid-19 reported in Dhevvadhoo island was on 24 December last year, and the island has now been under a state of monitoring for one month.
A four-month-old child had been the first to test positive for Covid-19 in Dhevvadhoo, from a family that had been in home quarantine. The family had been mistakenly informed that all members had tested negative for Covid-19, and many people on the island subsequently came into contact with the child who had contracted the virus once the family had left quarantine.
While the HEOC had initially believed this child to be "patient zero" for the Dhevvadhoo cluster, they have since confirmed community transmission on the island long before the child had gotten Covid-19.
73 of 83 positive Covid-19 cases linked to the Dhevvadhoo Cluster are from the island itself. Seven of the remaining cases from the cluster's tally correspond to positive cases reported in Dhaandhoo island of the same atoll. Four people with links to the Dhevvadhoo cluster tested positive in L. Fonadhoo, and two positive cases each were linked to the cluster from GA. Villingilli and the capital-suburb of Hulhumalé as well.
