Changes have been brought to the opening hours of the National Library.

The library is now set to open between 12pm and 3pm on Saturdays, Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The National Library was closed following discovery of the Covid-19 pandemic in Maldives between 12 March - 22 November 2020, and services were initially resumed for three days a week.

A recent statement publicized by the National Library reveals that they have now decided to keep the library open on Saturday in addition to Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, and that starting from 16 January 2021, citizens will be able to access library services between 12pm and 3pm on those four days.

While the National Library has now opened its doors after a long, eight-month hiatus, new services have been established for the benefit of the public, including computer systems, access to internet and even a discussion room for visitor use.

The National Library has also started the Make-A-Space program to teach specific skills to interested parties, and reaffirms that they are committed to follow new normal rules and HPA guidelines to protect the help of citizens choosing to visit the library.

There is a limitation placed on the number of people that can be inside the Library at the same time, and visitors are required to observe social distancing while within the library grounds. The policies for visitors and library staff handling books have also been changed, with special emphasis being placed on disinfection.

Services of the National Library resumed on 22 November 2020, and the Children's Multimedia Library (CML) run under the same administration was also re-opened on 10 January 2021. Similar to the Library, CML is also set to be between 12pm and 3pm for four days of the week; Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Services being provided by the CML were discontinued when the number of Covid-19 cases spiked in the country. As the number of positive cases are comparatively lower, the National Library and Children's Multi-media Library have now been opened, along with schools all across the country welcoming students for the final term of the 2020-2021 academic year.
