Managing Director at the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), Suhail Ahmed has said that the government has now commenced efforts on their masterplan for the industrial island of Thilafushi in Male' atoll, and that the work is projected to conclude in March next year.
Suhail made the remarks during an appearance on RaajjeTV's "Fala Surukhee" show on Tuesday, explaining that the mega-project to develop the Greater Male' Region was now underway with HDC overseeing the masterplan to develop Thilaushi and the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure managing the work of executing the masterplan for Gulhifalhu island.
He further reveled that the concept for the Thilaushi masterplan was now been finalized and that they forecast work to be concluded on the island as early as March 2021. The HDC official said that there were 140 hectares of land up for potential reclamation on Thilafushi, and that the land would be allocated for various industrial operations when they wrap up the reclamation project next year.

Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam says this government plans to relocate much of the industrial work currently taking place in capital Male' City to Thilafushi, and that land would be allocated from Thilafushi for this purpose within the five years of the Solih administration.
