A test flight has landed on the runway of the newly developed airport in the reclaimed land in Hoarafushi island of Haa Alif atoll.

A number of residents had gathered near the airport to welcome the historic flight.

The Hoarafushi Airport is to be inaugurated on Tuesday, by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) was contracted the MVR 198 million project in March 2019. The development of the airport terminal and fire building were contracted this September, with MTCC saying that this adds an additional MVR 13.8 million.

State utilities company, Fenaka completed the required electrical work by October 29.
