Covid-19: five more convicts test positive from Hulhumalé jail
 
The new cases are of convicts doing time at the facility
 
Six convicts have tested positive thus far
 
A total of 11 cases have been confirmed

Five more convicts from Hulhumalé Prison have tested positive for the global Covid-19 pandemic.

Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Mohamed Fulhu confirmed the matter to RaajjeMV, adding that the new cases have pushed the total number of cases in the facility to 11, six cases were discovered previously.

Five of the six detainees were being held at the facility temporarily, for deportation for violating the immigration laws of the Maldives. The remaining detainee was a prisoner at the Hulhumalé Prison.

The Commissioner of Prisons revealed that a total of six convicts have tested positive thus far, the five new cases are of convicts doing time for prison sentences.

The correctional authority earlier assured that it will continue to enforce measures and uninterruptedly provide services at prison and detention facilities under the guidelines set by HPA in light of the Covid-19 outbreak.
