President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has extended condolences to the government and people of Lebanon, following the mass explosions that rocked Beirut on Tuesday, killing at least 100 people.

In a Twitter post, the president noted that Maldives stands in solidarity with the people of Lebanon and that “our thoughts and prayers” are with the victims and their families as well as everyone affected by the calamity.

The president described the tragedy as an unspeakable carnage that led to the loss of lives caused by the deadly explosion.

International media reports that the explosion shook Beirut on Tuesday, killing at least 100 and leaving thousands wounded in its wake.

Lebanon authorities are yet to identify the cause of the explosion, however, the blast is to have caused USD five billion worth of damage, CNN cited the Beirut's governor.
