Privately run television station RaajjeTV has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with local NGO Advocating the Rights of Children (ARC) to work collaboratively in promoting and protecting the rights of children.

The MoU was signed during a special ceremony held on Wednesday morning where the station’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Naazmee Saeed signed on behalf of RaajjeTV and Executive Committee Member Murthala Moosa signed on behalf of ARC.

The MoU revolves around the initiation of a programme dedicated to spread awareness and promote protecting the rights of children

Following the signing ceremony, ARC expressed appreciation for the partnership, having stated belief that media has a role and responsibility to “not only respect children’s rights in journalism but also to actively promote child rights”.

In an interview with RaajjeMV following the partnership, Moosa highlighted that the programme, titled “Kudhinnahtakaa” will be conducted on a weekly basis for the next six months and will focus on different areas of child rights’ protection.

Under the agreement awareness video clips that promote the rights of children will be featured on RaajjeTV for a period of one year, and a special media sensitization programme will be conducted for journalists at the station as well.

These clips will showcase important messages for the people regarding abuse on children as well as ways to prevent children from falling victim to such abuse as well as prevalent issues regarding child rights.

Murthala highlighted that such a programme has not been conducted on this scale, in the Maldives thus far.

Further speaking at the ceremony, RaajjeTV’s Deputy CEO Naazmee expressed hope that the initiation of the programme will bring about positive achievements in the work to protect children’s rights.
