Work has begun on the Vaavu Rakeedhoo harbour project.

While a team from the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) arrived at the project site on June 19, the project was awarded to the company on October 1, 2019. MTCC said that the required Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)’s was approved in December.

The project, estimated to cost MVR 18.5 million, is to be completed by 5th October this year.

The Raakeedhoo harbour project work includes dredging and excavation of 5,645cbm, the construction of a 156m long breakwater, a 164m quay wall, and a 74m revetment.

The project also includes construction of 429sqm of paved area and installation of harbor and navigational lights.

In addition, the harbour repair and dredging project in Vandhoo island of Raa atoll has also commenced.

The work at the Vandhoo harbour include dredging and excavation work of a harbor basin of 1,870cbm, as well as the construction of a 75m quay wall, backfilling of quay wall with dredged materials and precast block installation.

The MVR 5.99 million project was awarded to MTCC in August 2019.
