After four long years of resilient work, privately-run television station RaajjeTV has begun broadcasting in High Definition.

With one of the biggest audiences across the Maldives, RaajjeTV launched it’s broadcast in HD from June 1 onward.

The HD broadcast began from the very first news bulletin of the day, at 6am.

The station’s Chief Technical Officer Ismail Jinah revealed that they have been working to introduce HD broadcasting for four years, over the course of which, the efforts were faced with several challenges which led to the project being delayed a number of times.

He added that they also faced challenges due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which proved to be an obstacle in acquiring equipment needed for the project.

Jinah highlighted the technical team’s commitment to always provide quality content to the viewers and that their next target is 4k resolution broadcasting.

The station remains in hope that the channel’s audience will grow even further with this upgrade, said Jinah, who added that RaajjeTV’s Managing Director Ahmed Saleem and Chairman Akram Kamaludeen provided full support to the team’s successful work which was carried out under their careful instructions.

As RaajjeTV celebrates its success in introducing HD broadcasting after four long years, Jinah shed light on the team behind this success and thanked them for the diligent work.

RaajjeTV is the first ever news station across the Maldives to have begun broadcasting on a round-the-clock basis and has been facing numerous challenges since its establishment in 2010. The channel was subject to harassment and gross discrimination during the tenure of now incarcerated former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. As such, the station was fined under the draconian Anti-Defamation Law passed by the previous administration, a number of times, the fines reaching MVR 3.7 million in total. Some of the station’s employees have also been victimized by police brutality and harassment from then ruling-party protestors over the years and a number of them were also put behind bars unethically.
