The ruling coalition has, in recent days, been thoroughly exposed to the public to be lacking in figures that serve the common good, opposition Jumhooree Party leader Qasim Ibrahim has said.
At a party rally held at Kunooz in Maafannu of capital city Malé, JP’s primary gathering site, on Monday, MP Ibrahim said that the government has acted with absolute tactlessness towards its people – reminiscent of opposition concerns over ‘laws that chock individual liberties’.
Further, referring to the state’s call for inclusive dialogue between ruling and opposition parties – he said the JP had previously approached the government, free of any terms, to no avail. He then questioned the sincerity of the intention behind said ‘all-party-talks’.

“While he continues to talk about democratic values, I hardly believe President Yameen even has the slightest inclination of what the spirit of democracy is” he continued “In this regard, [former president] Nasheed had contributed the most to our nation”.
MP Ibrahim referred to the government-sponsored amendments to freedom of assembly, foreign land ownership, and the criminalization of democratic.
He also added that the ruling coalition, for which JP threw in support at the 2013 presidential elections, has consistently been disloyal to members within its own rank.
