Repatriation of Maldivians
35 Maldivians stranded in Ukraine, repatriated
They were repatriated on Friday
The government is working to bring all Maldivians stranded in foreign countries
They will be brought back in accordance to the capacity at quarantine facilities

The government of Maldives has evacuated 35 Maldivians stranded in Ukraine.

This was revealed by Covid-19 spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Aziz, during Saturday night’s press briefing to update the public on the current Covid-19 situation in the Maldives.

As such, Mabrook revealed that the 35 Maldivians were repatriated from Ukraine on Friday.

While a number of Maldivians reside in Ukraine for educational purposes, further information regarding the repatriated Maldivians was not disclosed by the authorities.

Earlier, the spokesperson revealed that a large Maldivian community resides in foreign countries and that a number of them reside abroad for educational purposes. He assured the public that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working to bring them back in accordance with availability and the situation at the respective countries, some of which have imposed travel restrictions and closed their borders.

The ministry is monitoring the Maldivian community and has been extending support and assistance to them, as needed.

Mabrook earlier revealed that thousands of Maldivians have been repatriated and more will be given the opportunity to return home, in accordance with the availability of space at quarantine facilities.

All arrivals are required to be quarantined for a 14-day period under the current protocol being followed.
