Addu Equatorial Hospital has revealed that they do not have sufficient Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for frontline healthcare workers in the city.

Following the emergence of a Covid-19 case in the southernmost city, Addu City Council held an emergency online press briefing to announce a city-wide lockdown.

The hospital’s manager revealed that they have received the equipment, but do not have enough for its frontline workers.

None of the healthcare workers who were active in the treatment of the Covid-19 patient from the city had worn PPE, stressed the hospital.

Authorities have since identified seven nurses and 10 doctors as direct contacts of the patient.

This comes at a time the council had earlier stressed that they are lacking healthcare supplies and equipment, at a time the Covid-19 virus is sweeping steadily across the country since the first cases on March 7 and the community transmission which was confirmed on April 15.

The southernmost city is currently under lockdown for a period of 14 days.
